"billbarstad" got it right in his review. The murder takes place in a planetarium/observatory rather than in an old dark house - at least there are no secret passages or gorillas here. Russell Hopton makes a good no-nonsense policeman who may take a little time to solve a mystery but knows right away when he has fallen in love. Lola Lane plays the love interest who doesn't give herself away so fast - a fast-talking, intrusive reporter who says her career comes first and reports a story that puts a man's life at risk. At least she is appropriately guilt-ridden and apologetic - and gets her story and her man in the end. All the other actors are good and the plot provides us with enough guilty looking persons to make the whole thing interesting. A twist or two at the end ties it all up very nicely.

Considering the date, 1935, I thought that it was well acted and well scripted. I thought that the relationship between the cop and the newspaper woman was not the usual twist. But watch it and see if you agree with me. A good family movie.

--There was good atmosphere, some fair acting, a plot, a mystery--kept me guessing till the end, what more do you want? My wife & I like something that does not have the smut & graphic violence of today!

Yet another murder mystery with a spunky female reporter investigating while interfering and bantering with the police. The story is conventional: it's always the person least suspected and no clue will help solve the mystery, which is revealed at the end with all the suspects gathered. Instead of in an old house, this takes place largely in an observatory/planetarium complex. Pacing and acting are adequate. The hero has a tendency to speak fast and mumble.
I downloaded the mpeg1 file. Audio and video are fine, although there are a couple short glitches from the original print.
